Our buddy Patrick Ico has visited Japan and has gotten the chance to join the Skyline Festival last month at the Fuji Speedway. Today, he’s gonna share with us his coverage of the show. Take it away Patrick!
Japan, the land of the rising sun and has a very large car culture. It was my first time to visit the country and how excited I was. There’s only one goal for this trip and it’s all about CARS! We checked the schedules of car meets and events when we arrived. How lucky we were when there’s a Skyline Festival to be held at Fuji Speedway on Sunday.
We grabbed our gear and hopped into our rental car, that is a Nissan Elgrand a very luxurious minivan and has all the creature comforts you need when traveling. We were hesitated on going at first since the weather forecast said that it’s going to be rainy on that day. Being an optimist we didn’t want the weather to affect our yearning for cars so we still went and boy we were not disappointed…
We arrived at the main gate where a couple with a Kenmeri skyline was taking pictures. We proceeded to another gate that is the entrance for the skyline festival attendees. There were a lot of races on that day including the exotics (hakosuka, kenmeri, r30, r31) to name a few. There’s also a drift display in which Nomura-ken was also participating. I even saw the legendary Hasemi Motorsports R32 and the Calsonic R32. There were also for sale cars section. One car that I want to bring back home was the mint and restored Hakosuka for sale at JPY690,000.00 only if it is possible to drive RHD cars here. Even though it rained there are still a lot of attendees that went at the skyline festival. The festivity was a huge success.
